Visa has officially launched a stablecoin platform designed for financial institutions and fintech companies, enabling them to mint, move, and manage stablecoins through Visa's extensive payments network. This new initiative, reported on July 16, 2026, allows clients to issue and settle digital dollars, expanding their capabilities in the evolving landscape of digital currencies.
Through this platform, Visa is backing the Open USD (OUSD) stablecoin, which is anticipated to compete with existing products like Circle's USDC, currently the leading stablecoin in the United States. As part of its strategy, Visa aims to position itself as a key player in the digital currency space, facilitating more seamless digital transactions and access to stablecoins for its clients.
