IRIS Payments, a payment service that initially operated in Greece, has officially expanded its capabilities to facilitate cross-border instant money transfers throughout Europe. Starting from early July 2026, users will be able to send money to recipients across 18 countries simply by using their mobile phone numbers. This development has been enabled through the European Payments Alliance (EuroPA), marking a significant step in enhancing digital payment efficiency and accessibility for a total population of approximately 176 million citizens across the region.
The launch of these cross-border payment services is seen as a new era for instant digital transactions, providing users with a streamlined method to conduct everyday financial activities on an international scale. The initiative reflects a broader trend towards integrating payment systems across national borders, allowing seamless access to financial services for European citizens. The first phase of this expansion has set the groundwork for potentially deeper integrations and more advanced features in the future.
