A significant oil spill occurred at the Port of Piraeus during refueling operations for a high-speed passenger ferry registered under the Cypriot flag. The incident took place at Gate E4 around midday, when a metal coupling on the fuel supply hose became disconnected, causing oil to spray onto passengers who were boarding the vessel at the time.
The spill led to environmental contamination, affecting an area of approximately 30 square meters on the dock, with visible oil slicks observed in the water near the ferry. In response to the incident, two individuals were arrested by the Port Authority, which is investigating the circumstances surrounding the fuel leak. The authorities are working to address the environmental impact and ensure safety in the busy port area.
