Devastating floods in the province of Zamora-Chinchipe, located in southern Ecuador, have resulted in at least nine confirmed deaths, while another nine individuals remain missing. The floods, which have been attributed to intense rainfall, have caused significant destruction throughout the area. Among those unaccounted for is the governor of the province, along with two officials who were engaged in response efforts.
In addition to the casualties, reports indicate that at least 38 people have been injured and many homes have been severely damaged. The flooding was accompanied by landslides, further complicating rescue and recovery operations. Local authorities continue to assess the situation and search for the missing individuals.
