- Forty-six students and teachers who were abducted by Boko Haram in a rare attack in southwestern Nigeria last May have been released. The announcement was made by a presidential spokesperson. This type of mass kidnapping is uncommon in southern Nigeria, where kidnappings for ransom are more commonly reported in the north. The armed men involved in the attack were identified by the military as jihadists affiliated with Boko Haram.
