The Council of Ministers in Cyprus has announced new allowances and increased benefits for individuals with disabilities, following the approval of the phased implementation of the Law on Social Participation, Inclusion, and Independent Living for Persons with Disabilities. This includes the introduction of five specific benefits that are set to take effect over the coming months, enhancing financial support for eligible individuals.
The new measures encompass existing allowances that will be consolidated into a single benefit. These include the Disability Allowance, Home Care Subsidy, Blind Persons Grant, Severe Mobility Disability Allowance, and Care Allowance for Paraplegics and Quadriplegics. The Undersecretary for Social Welfare has confirmed that the changes will also introduce new eligibility criteria, expanding the reach of these benefits to additional individuals who may not have previously qualified.
