The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) in Greece has launched extensive audits targeting social media influencers, focusing on identifying undeclared earnings and unreported sponsorships. These checks aim to uncover revenue from advertising collaborations that were not properly invoiced, as well as products or services received as compensation for promotion that have not been reported for tax purposes.
As part of its effort to combat tax evasion, the AADE will scrutinize influencers' social media posts, which are becoming a primary tool in these tax investigations. This represents a significant shift in the approach to monitoring income sources from the digital landscape, aligning with broader initiatives to ensure compliance among those generating income from various online activities. The audits are expected to result in financial penalties for those found in violation of tax regulations.
