Greece's annual inflation rate eased to 4.4% in June 2026, down from 5.2% in May, according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT). Despite this decrease, the inflation rate is notably higher than the 2.8% recorded in June of the previous year. The decline in inflation has been attributed to a moderation in food price increases, although energy costs continue to exert upward pressure on the overall index.
Significant price increases were noted in key sectors such as meat and fuel. Specifically, prices for beef rose by 15.6%, while lamb and goat meat saw an increase of 16.2%. Double-digit price hikes were also reported for energy sources, including oil and natural gas, indicating that energy costs are still a major factor in maintaining elevated inflation levels. The Ministry of Development is actively promoting initiatives aimed at reducing prices for essential goods, which may help further alleviate cost pressures for consumers in the coming months.
