As part of the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism's Pre-positioning Program, Greek firefighters are actively engaged in firefighting efforts in southern France. A team of 21 firefighters from various specialized units, known as the Hellenic GFFF-V Module, is on the ground to assist in combating significant wildfires that have been affecting the region.
The Greek fire crews, which include personnel from multiple Special Forest Operations Units (E.MO.D.E.), have been deployed to tackle challenging conditions presented by both forest and agricultural fires. Their involvement began alongside other European nations responding to the escalating threat of wildfires in southern France, reflecting a coordinated effort to address the crisis effectively. Firefighting operations are ongoing and critical as the situation continues to develop.
