Professor Gerasimos Siasos has been elected as the new President of the Conference of Rectors of Greek Public Universities, following the conference held in Samos on July 2-3, 2026. Siasos is the rector of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (EKPA) and has held this position since September 2023. His election marks him as the youngest rector ever to assume this leadership role.
As an advocate for public universities, Siasos aims to promote and secure state support for higher education in Greece. His presidency comes at a time when discussions around the potential revision of Article 16 of the Greek Constitution, which pertains to the structure and operation of higher education institutions, are polarizing among stakeholders in the academic community. The ongoing concerns related to student welfare and measures for equality within the educational system are also on the agenda for his term.
