In recent months, foreign investors have significantly increased their engagement in the Greek stock market, leading to a notable rise in stock prices, market capitalisation, and trading volumes. By the end of June 2026, foreign investors controlled approximately €102.62 billion worth of Greek shares, making them net buyers with purchases exceeding their sales by €158.27 million in June alone. Over the first half of the year, these net purchases totaled approximately €363.85 million.
This influx of foreign capital has coincided with Greece's potential upgrade to developed-market status, which has heightened investor interest. Currently, foreign investors represent 68.6% of the market's total capitalisation on Euronext, reflecting their substantial influence in this evolving financial landscape. The growth in foreign investment is seen as a sign of confidence in the Greek economy, bolstered by the anticipated developments in its market standing.
