A fire broke out in the agricultural and forest area of Charakopio, Messinia, on June 29, 2026, prompting a rapid response from local firefighting services. The Hellenic Fire Service mobilized 40 firefighters, supported by two ground teams from the 9th Mobile Emergency Firefighting Unit (EMODE), alongside 10 fire engines to combat the blaze.
Five aerial firefighting units were also deployed to assist in the efforts to contain the flames. The fire's location required significant resources due to the challenging terrain typical of the region. Firefighters are currently engaged in efforts to manage the situation and prevent further spread of the fire. There have been no reports about injuries or damage to property at this time.
