The Greek government has announced a significant expansion of the eligibility criteria for the "Home Renovation" program, which aims to encourage the renovation and energy upgrades of vacant properties. This initiative is part of the European Social Fund Operational Program for 2021-2027 and has a budget of 500 million euros. The broadening of criteria will now include owners who hold a minimum share of 20% in a property, allowing a larger number of people to benefit from financial assistance.
The revisions are designed to stimulate the utilization of the country’s residential stock and address the issue of empty homes. Eligible owners will be able to access financing for renovations and mild energy improvements. The changes are expected to open the door for thousands of additional property owners who previously may not have qualified for support under the program. Details regarding the application process and deadlines will be outlined in forthcoming official communications.
