A significant heatwave that has gripped Western Europe is gradually shifting eastward, affecting Central Europe and the Balkans. After several days of record-breaking temperatures exceeding 35°C in countries like Spain and France, conditions are beginning to ease in the west. However, Central Europe is bracing for dangerous heat, with forecasts predicting temperatures as much as 10°C above typical summer levels.
The World Meteorological Organization has warned that the extreme heat is likely to intensify in the Balkans, including Greece, where citizens can expect hot days and tropical nights. As the heatwave rolls east, it has led to increased demands on hospitals and prompted the cancellation of public events due to safety concerns. Greece and other Balkan nations are advised to prepare for prolonged periods of excessive temperatures in the upcoming days.
