EasyJet has reached an agreement in principle to accept a takeover offer from US investment firm Castlelake for £5.2 billion, following a series of rejected bids. The deal, announced on July 5, 2026, comes as EasyJet faced challenges stemming from rising jet fuel prices and decreased demand, particularly influenced by the geopolitical situation following the Iran war.
The agreement would see the low-cost airline, which is the largest of its kind in the UK, transition to a privately held entity. Castlelake's bid includes an offer of £6.90 per share in cash, marking a significant step for both parties after EasyJet had previously turned down four other proposals from the firm. As the companies move forward with the arrangement, further details regarding the transaction are expected to be clarified in the coming weeks.
