The Athens Medical Association has issued a warning regarding the recent heatwave hitting Greece, urging heightened caution among the public. As temperatures soar, reportedly exceeding 40 degrees Celsius in various regions, officials emphasize the potential health risks associated with extreme heat, particularly for vulnerable groups such as the elderly, young children, pregnant women, and those with chronic illnesses.
In response to the rising temperatures, the Greek Ministry of Health has released an extraordinary circular outlining prevention measures and health guidelines to protect citizens. These guidelines include recognizing symptoms of heat exhaustion and heatstroke, as well as recommendations for hydration and avoiding outdoor activities during peak heat hours. The Ministry warns that the oppressive heat could lead to dangerous situations if adequate precautions are not taken.
Both the Athens Medical Association and the Ministry of Health continue to stress the importance of community awareness and personal responsibility in mitigating the effects of the heatwave, highlighting that prevention is the most effective strategy against heat-related health issues.
