The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) of Greece has announced significant changes regarding fuel purchase transactions at gas stations starting January 1, 2027. According to the decision by AADE head Giorgos Pitsilis, only invoices will be accepted for business-to-business (B2B) fuel purchases. This move aims to dismantle the existing trade of fuel receipts used for tax evasion and fraudulent expense claims.
Under the new guidelines, gas stations will be required to issue invoices for every sale made to businesses, including the Tax Identification Number (AFM) of the purchasing entity. Simple retail receipts will no longer be valid for businesses to deduct fuel expenses, altering how companies manage their fuel purchases.
This decision aims to increase transparency and efficiency in revenue collection, effectively putting an end to the "receipt trade" that has been prevalent in the sector. Such measures reflect the government's ongoing commitment to combat tax evasion and enhance economic accountability in Greece.
