The latest annual Global Liveability Index, published by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), has identified Copenhagen as the most sustainable city in the world for 2026. This marks the second consecutive year that the Danish capital has topped the rankings, surpassing Vienna, which previously held the top position for three years. The index evaluates cities based on factors such as stability, infrastructure, healthcare, education, culture, and the environment.
Copenhagen is recognized for its high quality of life, sustainable practices, and overall livability, making it a benchmark for urban sustainability. Following Copenhagen, the top ten cities include Vienna, Zurich, Sydney, and Vancouver, all of which are noted for their robust living conditions. In contrast, Athens is ranked much lower, coming in at 88th place, highlighting the ongoing challenges it faces in areas such as infrastructure and overall urban sustainability.
