A recent report from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) has revealed that the ongoing war in Ukraine, now in its fifth year, has resulted in over two million military casualties, including both deaths and injuries. The report, highlighted by the New York Times, indicates that Russia has suffered the majority of these losses, with approximately 1.4 million soldiers reported as killed or wounded.
In contrast, Ukrainian forces are estimated to have around 150,000 casualties. The report underscores the devastating humanitarian impact of the conflict, which began with Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022. The figures represent a significant escalation in violence and highlight the ongoing toll of the war, which continues to affect both nations severely. The findings serve as a stark reminder of the conflict's enduring consequences for military personnel and their families.
