Three 18-year-olds were arrested early this morning in Ayia Napa in connection with the serious assault of a 47-year-old Turkish Cypriot man. The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack, which left the victim in critical condition, requiring intubation and treatment for a brain hemorrhage and skull fracture at Nicosia General Hospital. According to reports, the suspects were detained under court warrants to facilitate ongoing investigations.
The three arrested individuals are reported to hold Swedish passports but have origins in Albania, Chile, and Iraq. A fourth suspect is currently being sought by police. Preliminary reports suggest that the altercation may have begun after the group consumed alcohol, and authorities have indicated that they do not perceive any hate motive behind the incident.
The suspects are expected to appear before the District Court of Famagusta for a custody hearing within the next few days. The police continue to gather evidence as they pursue their investigation into the violent event.
