Public sector employees in Greece who have worked in both the public and private sectors may be eligible for a second pension. This applies to those who have completed at least 15 years of service in the public sector and have also accumulated at least 15 years of insurance in the private sector, specifically with the former IKA (now EFKA). The deadline for submitting applications to claim this second pension is December 31, 2026.
Eligibility for the second pension is also tied to age criteria. Employees must be at least 67 years old to claim the second pension. However, there is an exception for those who have completed 40 years of insurance, allowing them to claim the second pension at age 62.
The process involves submitting an application to EFKA, which will then calculate the pension based on the combined years of service and insurance contributions in both sectors. The aim is to provide a more comprehensive pension benefit for individuals with mixed career paths.
